Nothing New Under the Sun

“There is nothing new under the sun.” ~Ecclesiastes 1:9-14

A gray branch sprouts perky green buds and holds squirrel and robin together
A warm golden bone splinters and hinders and troubles the whole of tomorrow
And that fiery globe pierces the shadows to rise straight and strong without care
To shine or to glare or hide behind gun-metal gray above all, for all, indiscriminate
Bonnets donned, steel shatters the universe and tears flow of hope and anguish still
I here, you there, them over yonder; 500 B.C., 1776, 1942, 2003, where’s the distinction?

The splintered golden bone holds the squirrel and robin together for the unbroken tomorrow.
